Best Road Trip Destinations in the Americas

Everyone should get to know their own country, as well as the continent they live on. However, if your motherland is as vast as the USA, that is not easy.
Not to mention the whole of North America.

Road trippin’ has long ago become a part of American culture and legacy and an indispensable experience in the life of every American. There is no better way to get to know a country so big than sitting in your car and driving through it, at your own pace and convenience.

Of course, it’s not so easy to choose which road to take as America is full of different routes and brimming with diverse breathtaking sceneries as well as cities, from coasts, to valleys, mountains, deserts and many more.

The Historic Route 66

Did you really expect anything else? Route 66 literally stands as an epitome of road trips, as one of the first roads, evoking the beginning of the automobile era.

This is a historic route and probably the best and most suitable one to start your road tripping career. It starts in Chicago and goes to L.A.

Nowadays there are much faster and better ways to cross the distance between these two cities, but none as fun and interesting as the 2500 miles of this huge open-air museum. You can still see good old road-side motels along the way, as well historic gas stations.

This route goes across eight states and there aresights to visits in all of them. From Illinois, where you can stop at one of the above-mentioned gas stations, through Missouri where you’ll pass 66 Drive-In theater, and Kansas where you can make a break at of the fun, restored gas stations such as Galena.

It continues through Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona, to finally end in California, L.A. area, more precisely Santa Monica Pier.

Canada to Mexico

Start in the Canadian Rockies, more precisely in the Jasper National Park, and go through Montana, Idaho, Nevada,and Arizona, all the way to Mexico.

Of course, once you get there, nothing stops you to continue driving through picturesque Mexican scenery, just make sure you have all the necessary documents.

But before getting to Mexico, make sure you stop in Montana for some fishing and camping at the Flathead Indian Reservation and National Forest.

Nevada will let you enjoy the loneliness of the high desert landscapes, as well as the bustling urban life of Las Vegas before you reach Arizona where you definitely shouldn’t miss the Hoover Dam and Titan Missile Museum.

From there, you can choose whether to move across the border and continue your exciting road trip adventure.

Californian Pacific Coast

If you want to enjoy amazing coastal sceneries, you should definitely take a 1000-mile long route along the coast of California.

It will take you from Crescent City to San Diego, with scenic and picturesque spots, including small coastal towns, big cities, redwoods,and beaches. San Francisco is definitely a place you should visit during this trip.

Enjoy the view of the Golden Gate Bridge and the cities numerous sites and restaurants. You can relax watching surfers along the way, or you might as well join them if you’re into that. Make sure you ride a beach rollercoaster in one of the beach towns.

Once you reach Salinas, don’t miss an opportunity to visit the museum dedicated to the writer John Steinbeck. You will past through L.A. as well as beautiful coastal towns of Santa Barbara and Santa Monica, finishing the route in San Diego, near the Mexican border.
Again, nothing stops you from moving on to Tijuana and starting a whole new Mexican adventure.
